Get ready for some TED videos. I recently attended TEDxVancouver and was re-inspired in many ones. One such way is to share great TED videos and one such video is from Rory Sutherland on the intangible value of marketing products.

In addition to the video being funny with some great concepts presented in a fun way, the topic of intangible benefits that Mr. Sutherland discusses in the video applies greatly to nonprofits and an area where those of us in nonprofit marketing may have an advantage over our for-profit marketing brethren.

In fundraising, almost all of marketing is about building intangible value in what the donor gets in return for their donation. In the form of a feeling. Access to certain special events or information. Leaving a legacy. Social status. Alleviation of guilt. And the list goes on.

Marketers dream of possessing that ability to boost the value of a product by increasing the intangible value while not changing the actual product itself. So with more on intangible value and other life lessons from an Ad Man here’s Rory Sutherland. Enjoy!
